Agency Media Owner relationships revealed…

Sometimes the truth needs to be pointed out…courteousy of an anonymous email source.
Media: hello, Pointless Media
Agency: Hi media monkey whose name I can’t be bothered to remember, it’s Blah from The Really Big and Important Agency. Thanks for the weak attempt at bribery last week when you took my whole team out for masses of drinks although we both know 7 of them were creative and will never make a buying decision.
Media: Ahh yes, the smeg head that can’t be bothered to return my calls, how can I attempt to …

You could call it “opt-in” stalking, as Slashfilms have published a nice long list of Directors, Screenwriters and Actors to follow on Twitter. There’s a lot of debate too, from the úber-celebrity stalker to people just saying “why?”. It’s a bit like following Tim Westwood, it’s amusing at first, but his updates get more and more tedious by the second.
Twitter seems like it’s in the typical cycle – everyone goes crazy, it’s the latest fad, but over time I’m sure people will stop following 1,000+ people, and start “pruning” their …

ITV Listen Up!

OK, I can no longer tolerate the cataclysmically poor programming consistently doled out by myriad TV channels. I single out ITV for particular crucifixion but the other culprits know who they are.
Listen up! I have a couple of programming ideas you can take to the bank.
1) High Street Musical.
Find an ailing retail chain. Audition the staff for parts in an actual musical with a self referential story about saving the retail chain. Get the couchbound pizza chewing public to vote by phone – hence delivering revenue to the retail chain and …

I am strongly considering hiring a new salesperson. Specifically, a tramp.

This bright idea dawned on me in a stupor business meeting in a bustling media friendly Covent Garden hostelry. Now you may think this idea lacks merit but try these on for size:-

1) Most of my agency clients look like tramps so it will be a sartorial meeting of minds. Admittedly, your average agency hipster smells a little better than a tramp but their annunciation is usually poor to the point of being mistaken for the mewling of …

Mad ramblings of a Facebook fool

So Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is encouraging users to vote on how they want the site to be run.
From 17th April Facebook members will be able to install an application that will allow them to vote on documents that will govern how the social network is run.
Democracy on the internet eh? Not a bad idea…the internet, the final frontier of free speech, where no-one will be able to have control over individuals’ freedoms. Mark Zuckerberg has to make his earlier U-turn on ownership of all Facebooks users’ photos etc …

Here we go again…recession=cut budgets. Doh!!

In NMA this week, ad spend in the UK is expected to fall by 8.7% compared to last year, according to ZenithOptimedia.
Globally, the internet was the only medium predicted to experience a rise in advertising expenditure this year, up 8.6% but down compared to the 20.9% rise experienced last year. TV ad spend is expected to fall by 5.5%, while the newspaper industry is likely to fair the worst with a 12% decline.
Even with growth still expected in digital the amount of times I hear a client saying, “we’re …

Renault TV Channel

Renault has  launched Renault TV to offer 5 channels of Renault content for online users.  The content itself is neatly presented with  some content having being produced by TV Studio RDF in London.  The channels on offer to the doubtless salivating audience are Live, Entertainment, Motorsports, Autotainment, and Infotainment…hang on, Autotainment and Infotainment?!!  I can’t help but be reminded of the 30 minute gut busting Super Ab Maximiser that is sold for half an hour at a time on some obscure satellite TV channel on a Saturday morning…don’t delay, buy …

I’m sure most people have seen this ad breaking recently, a catchy little tune and a fun animation to explain yet another 118 number service (OK, I know yell.com is probably one of the biggest and its been around for ages).
A (slightly) lesser known fact is that the Ad is complete copy of Magical Trevor, a pretty old school animation from Mr Weebl, who created weebl and bob, the badger viral and, well, Magical Trevor.
Will the Ad achieve more Youtube views than Magical Trevor? It has a way to go …
